Benefits of CBD: Part One

Benefits of CBD

The “Benefits of CBD” Series will explore the phenomenon of this incredible cannabinoid CBD. It’s time to talk CBD! Part One of the series will discuss how CBD interacts with the body, and connect it’s application on four health issues: chronic pain, anxiety, withdrawal, and trouble sleeping.

People have been talking about CBD for some time now. You may have heard it commonly described as “the medical part” of cannabis, or “the part that doesn’t get you high”. While both of these statements are true, there is so much more to know about this fantastic cannabinoid!

How does CBD work?

First, we need to understand that cannabis contains compounds called cannabinoids. There are at least 113 cannabinoids, the most famous being CBD, and its psychoactive sibling THC. The human body, like many other animals, possesses what’s called an endocannabinoid system, and actually produces some cannabinoids naturally.

Each of these different cannabinoids attach to receptors in the body to produce varying effects. Due to it’s long-time illegality, we are only starting to understand how CBD really works. At first, researchers thought CBD attached to the CB2 receptors; most common in the immune system. More recently, science suggests CBD does not directly attach to the CB2 or CB1 receptor, but instead directs the body to make more use of it’s own cannabinoids.

Benefits of CBD

Pain relief

It’s so easy to take an over-the-counter medicine. Opiate-based medicine like Advil, Ibuprofen or Tylenol certainly quell the pain, but they can have extremely adverse side-effects if you take them consistently over a long period of time. CBD has grown in popularity and reputation over the last ten years simply because it works. And there are no adverse side effects. Let that sink in. There are NO adverse side effects. CBD has a wide variety of applications within pain management, from headaches, joint pain and inflammation, stiffness and arthritis, chronic pain, and even a bad hangover. It’s also a great solution for athletes dealing with injury management.

Benefits of CBD

Anxiety

Doctors usually advise anyone suffering from chronic anxiety to avoid cannabis altogether, because psychoactive THC can potentially trigger anxiety and paranoia with some people. CBD, on the other hand, associates with a feeling of calmness. In spite of doctor’s initial warnings, CBD has become a widespread popular health alternative for those suffering with anxiety. More studies must be done, but the anecdotal evidence has certainly been compelling. These have been consistent positive reports that CBD can be very helpful moderating symptoms of anxiety. Again, with NO adverse side-effects! Many patients suffering from anxiety stop taking their prescribed drugs because of the terrible side effects that come along with taking pharmaceuticals. Throw those pills in the trash and get on the CBD train!

Benefits of CBD

Studies done for a Neurotherapeutics journal found their findings “…strongly support(ed) the potential of CBD as a treatment for anxiety disorders.” Their review suggested that CBD may help to reduce symptoms of anxiety with people with conditions such as:

  • PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)
  • OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
  • Social Anxiety Disorder
  • General Anxiety Disorder
  • Panic Disorder

The findings are so promising! We are excited to see the impact that CBD will have on the pharmaceutical industry in the future.

Quiting smoking + drug withdrawal

At the end of the day, if you’re going to quit smoking butts, no one and nothing will make that happen except for you. But if you’re really going to take a crack at it, there is some promising work suggesting CBD may help you quit! It can potential help curb those cravings with it’s calm, relaxed effects.

Benefits of CBD

Cannabis in general is a popular method to help those with opiate addictions cope with symptoms of withdrawal. THC and CBD can both help in this situation, but THC isn’t for everybody. CBD can definitely do the job on its own, and there are some exciting studies in this field that suggest positive results.

Hi, My husband has advanced Parkinsons Disease and for the past 3 years has been using CBD to counteract pain, dyscenesia, and freezing. We know how well it works for him, but both his GP and Psychiatrist refuse to prescribe it for him as “there has not been enough research done on CBD or THC”. We are not interested in the THC, Jus the CBD.
We used to have a really good email order site, but they have gone out of business and the local ‘legal’ weed stores don’t stock the CBD products that he likes.
